AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR POLICE SUPERVISION OF THE DIS-
TRIBUTION OR CIRCULATION OF ADVERTISING ~~TTER AND SAN~LES
VaTHIN THE CITY OF GILROY.
THE MAYOR AND COW~ON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY DO ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or
corporation to distribute or circulate or cause to be distributed
or circulated within the City of Gilroy any advertising sample,
handbill, dodger, circular, booklet, or other notice of commercial
or political or religious advertising,w.ithout first having obtained
a permit therefor from the Chief of Police of the City of Gilroy,
who may issue the same.
SECTION 2: Any person, firm or corporation applying for
such permit must first file or deposit in the office of the Chief of
Police of the City of Uilroy, one or more copies of said adver-
tising matter with a statemen~~J~.~riting to said Chief of Police
that it is intended to dist~ibute br circulate the same.

SECTION 3: Nothing her~in contained shall be construed as
repealing or modifying Ordina.nce No.. 383 of the C'ity of Gilroy
SECTION 4: Any person, firm, partnership, or corporation

violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed
guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be pun-
ished by a fine of not more than One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) or
by imprisonment in the City or County Jail for a period of not more

than thirty (30) days, or by both such fine and imprisonment. Each
day or fraction thereof any person, firm, partnership or corporation
shall violate any of the provisions hereof shall be considered
separate and distinct offenses.
SECTION 5: This ordinance shall take effect and be in force
from and after its passage and approval.
