HELATING TO ABSENCE OF I.IAYOR GEORGE C.MILIAS FROlJI MEETING OF COUNJIL
ON TIlE OCCASION OF HIS BTI1TIIDAY, AND COnCEHl~IlJG HIS ELECTION FOR THE
SIXTIr CONSECUTIVE TERLI AS llAYOR.
','iHEREAS, a general munic ipal elect ion was held yesterday in the
Ci ty 0 f Gi lroy for the se lee t ion by the elect ors of the City of Gi lroy
of its officials for the ensuing two years, and
',TCREAS, in said election Georse C.Ililias was elected Mayor of the
Ci ty of Gilroy for the sixth conseoutive term, he having again received
a very handsome complimentary vote in spite of the fact that he had no
opposition, and
DHEREAS, this Council has convened this day for the purpose of
canvassing the returns of said eleotion, b~t the said Mayor is absent
due to arrangements having been previously nade by members of his family,
partioularly his mother, to oelebrate his ___birthday anniversary (just
which one this Counoil has not been advised, but it just oan't be more
than the 39th),and
ViIff.1'.wREAS this Counoil regrets exceedingly the absence of said George
C.T.Cilias at this important meeting and its consequent inability to here
and now congratulate him personally for being the peoples' choice for
Mayor for so many terms, and said Cou11oil has therefdlre seriously oon-
sidered the advisability of levying a fine or suitable amount against
said Mayor, and
~BEREAS, before levying said fine, this Counoil deeIW it well to
pause and dwell upon the public oareer of said George C.Milias and to
remember that before he bagan to serve this oomnunity as Mayor, he was
a member of the Common Council of the Ci ty 0 f Gilroy fo r several terms,
that during his long servioe as Mayor and Councilman, he has been diligent,
earnest and industrious in behalf of the publio, and dvvoted to its
chnterests even though during all this time he has ,b:e~n:engaged in im-
portant business undertakings req~iring much time and thought, and to
refleot upon the faot that in him the oitizens of the oamnunity have had
a trustworthy servant and this Counoil an able leader and adviser ,and
VIDEREAS this Counoil believes that suoh worthy and meritorious servioe
should be commended during the lifetime of him who performs it rather
than by eulogies thereafter, and that a publio reoord should be made
thereof,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Council, taking advantage
of the absence of said George C.Milias fram this meeting does hereby
offioially and personally oongratulate him upon this____anniversary and
upon his sixth oonsecutive election to the office of Mayor of Gilroy, and
does further oongratulate and oommend him for his long,noteworthy and
unselfish servioe for the pUblio good, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOL~D that felioi*ations be extended to Minnie Milias,
the mother of said George C.Milias, upon this natal day of her son whose
sucoess she has had much to do with, and in whose oareer of public servioe
she must take great pride.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the matter of levying a fine against the
said Mayor be and is hereby indefinetly postpone~, and that a oOPY of
this resolution, duly oertified by the City Clerk, be delivered unto said
George C.Milias and his family
