RESOLUTION REQ,YESTING THE STATE DEPARTUIENT OF PUBLIC VIORKS,DIVi
ISION OF HIGH\'iAYS, TO AUTHORIZE OIl CAUSE SIGnS TO BE ERECTED AT
THE JUNCTION 03 PACHECO PASS ROAD A~TI FERGUSON ROAD,AND THE
JUNCTION OF LEAVESLEY ROAD AND STATE HIGHWAY NO.lOl DIRECTING
TRUCK rrHAFFIC FROM CEHTAIN POINTS 'ro USE TEE LEAVESLEY~FERGUSON
ROAD ROUTE.
YiHEREAS, the State Highway No .10l, commonly known as the
Monterey Hoad,runs through the City of Gilroy and constitutes the
main street of said city and is under the jurisdiction of the State
Department of Public ',.'orks;and
VlHEREAS,the said l/~onterey Hoad is a main artery of travel and
carries a very heavy traffms of passenger cars and trucks, many
of which trucks come from San Joaquin Valley points or are going
thereto,and said trucks customarily travel on the Uonterey Hoad to
or from the intersection of the ?acheco Pass Road with said High-
way No.lOl;and
~lliEREAS,the said trucks constitute a serious traffic problem
in the Oity of Gilroy as .well as creating loud and disturbing noises
and din, detrimental to the transaction of business in the stores and
offi ces along the said l.Iontere y Hoad as well as offensive to the
senses of the people;and
\IHEREAS, the Leaves ley Hoad and the Fergus on Hoad to which it
connects,aonstitute an alternate route for traffic going to or from
the San Joaquin Valley to and from points North of the City of Gilroy
outside of and by-passing the City of Gilroy,and are but sparsely
travelled and are otherwise enti rely sui ta ble for trucl;: trafflilc and
can be used by trucks going to and from San Joa:luin Valley points
from points Norti1 of the~ity of Gilroy,thus alleviating the said
traffic condition in the City of Gilroy horeinbefore nentioned and
should be soused.
I~OYi,THEREFCRE,BE rr HESOLVED that the Comrlon~ouncil of the
Ci t:7 of Gilroy does respectfully request that the :::Jtate Department
of Public ,0rks,Division of Highways,Division 4,cause to be erected
the necessary signs ail. the junction of the IJacheco Pass Hoad and
Ferguson :~oad and the ,junction of the Leaves ley ={oad and Gta te
Eighv/ay No .101 clirect ing all trucl\: traffi c to and frora San Joaquin
Valley points over the said Leavesley-Ferguson Ho ad route;
AND BE IT :J!'URTEER HESOLVED that the city Clerk of the City of
Gilroy be,and he is hereby,directed to submit certified copies of
this resolution to the Engineer in charge of Division of Highways,
Di v is ion 4, and to the Board of Sllpervisors of the County 0 l' Santa
Clara.
