RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY
AUlHORIZING THE PROCUREMENT OF COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE
INSURING THE CITY OF GILROY, ITS ELECTIVB OFFICIALS, AND
ITS APPOINTIVE BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS AGAINST LIABILITY
POB INJURIES OR D.AJUGES ARIS rWG OUT or THE OWNERSHIP, UBI
AND/OR OPERATIONS OF AUTOMOBILES AND OTH~R VEHICLES BELONGING
TO THE CITY OF GILROY OR USED BY OR ON BEHALF OF THE CITY or
GILROY.

WHEREAS, the City of Gilroy has heretofore obtained
comprehensive insurance insuring the City of Gilroy, its
elective otficials and its apPointive boards and commissions
including the ~oard of Directors of the Gilroy Gymkhana Assoc-
iation against liability for bodily injury and/or damages and/or
death and damages to property arisiag out of th8 ownership, use
and/or operation of automobiles and other vehicles belonging to
the City of Gilroy as well as from the use and operation of other
vehicles while being used on behalf of the City of Gilroy, aDd
also insuring the Ci~ of Gilroy, its elective otticials aad its
said appointive boards and oommissions against liability tor
damage to property exoept city rwned property, with the following
limi ts I

The policy to cover the liability of the above named insured
irrespective ot where the accident or injury occurs, and also to
include automobile. acquired by the City ot Gilroy subsequent to
the eftective date of the policy and while it is in force, and
also for compreheasive, fire and theft with 850.00 deductible
collision on all passenger type automobiles owned bY the City
ot Gilroy and for fire and thett and $100.00 deductible collision
on all commercial type automobiles which said insurance covers

a period of three (3) years from the 6th day of Juuary, 1951,
with the premium adjust~d for the second and third years on the
comprehensive, fire and theft and collision her~nbefore
mentioned; and
'1JHEREAS, the said insurance will elCp ire on the 6th day of
January, 1954; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Common Council of the City
of Gilroy to place said insurance with such insurance company
or companies as w1l1 submit the best offer to the City after
proposals for the in~urance are invited and notice thereof
given by publication.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL VEn :
That proposals be invited for writing the same insurance
as that which will expire a~ hereinbtllfore set forth for a term
or three (3} years with the same limits and liabilities and
insuring the same boards, officials and commissions with the
premiums to be adjusted on all the policies for the second and
third years, and that the following conditions must be met
with by the bidders and shall be so stated in the ~lblished
notice inviting proposals, to-wit I
The company submitting a bid must be a California admitted
compan:! and have a rating of nA" (\f better in the latest editio.
of Bestr~ Insurance GUide, and bidder just state the name of in-
surance company for whom he bids. Such company must assume the
entire insurance involved in co~rage but may reinsure. Agents
~ubmitting bids mu~t be regul~rly appointed agent of the company,
mai!ltai!l a bonafide office in the City of Gilroy, and the company
must submit, with the bid, a letter ~tating that the company will
continue to have a bonafide agent in the City of Gilroy during
the life of the policy, and that 9ald comp~ny will have apPOinted,
and continue to have during the life of said policy, a claim
adjuster in the County of Santa ClAra available at all times

during business hours; said company must have a capital and
surplus each of at least One Million Dollars ($1,000,000.00)
as of December 31, 1950 or lat~r. The bidder must submit the
fOllowing additional informatioa with tha bidsa
The latest sworn financial statement and whether said company
is a conf~rence or non-conference company and/or a reciprocal
company ~r mutual company.
ALL propos~ls or bids shall be accompanied 'by a certified
check payable to the City of Gilroy for not legS than ;500000
or by bid bond for said amount signed by the bidder and two
sureties unless the surety is a surety company in which case
the bond may be signed by the principal and surety company only.
Premiums on policy or p01icies to be paid one-third each year.
Said proposals or bids shall be sealed and shall be delivered
to P. A. Cox, the City Clerk of the City of pilroy not later
than 5:00 o'clock P.M.. on the1t1 day of

The Common Council reserves the right to reject any and all
bids. The Common CO~lncil further reserves the right to waive any
informality as to the form of bid.
This notice contains the only specifications applying te the
said Ins'Jrance. All former and c-ther specifications have been
cancelled.
