RESOLUTION AND ORDER CANVASSING ABSENTEE VOTES CAST AT REGULAR
MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD MAY 3,1954,AND DETERMINING TOTAL VOTE,
, AND DECLARING ELECTION OF OFFICERS OF THE CITY OF GILROY.

WHEREAS, the regular municipal election for the municipal offices
of the City of Gilroy Was held in said City of Gilroy on May 3,1954,
in accordance with the provisions of the City Charter and pursuant
tp law and to due and legal notice given of said election;and
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Gilroy has on the
4th day of IvIay,,1954, canvassed the returns of said election except
the absentee votes and found and ascertained that the total mumber
of votes,excluding absentee votes, cast at said election was 1666;
that the number of votes cast at Precinct ttAIf was 529;that the
number of votes. cast at precinct ttB" was 610;that the n~ber of
votes cast at Precinct l'Clt was 527; and setting forth the names of'
the candidates for t he respective offices and the number of votes
received by each candidate,excldsive of absentee votes;and
WHEREAS, it appears that under the law ort the State of California,
li,bsentee votes may be received up to seven (7) days after the election,
and that the absentee votes must be canvassed not later thail the
seventh day after the election;and
WHEREAS, the ConUIlon Couhcil of the City of Gilroy has this 10th
day of May,1954, met in an adjourned session at the hour of 1:00
otclock p.m. to ca nvass the said absentee votes cast at the afore-
said election and has canvassed the said votes and found and ascert-
ained that the total number of absentee votes cast at said election
was 20; that the total number of votes including absentee votes was
1686, and that the following named persons received the number of
absentee votes set opposite the total number of votes,excllisive of
absentee votes as found in the previous canvass and the total number
of votesset opposite their respective names for the respective
~offices for which they were candidates, to-wit:

Common Council ef the City of Gilroy that all. ef the above candidates
duly nominated for the respective effices fer which they were candidates,
and that the said GEORGE .M.MASON received the majerity ef all votes
cast for the effice of Mayor of the City of Gilrey; that PHILIP A COX
received the majerity of all votes cast fer the effice of City Clerk ef
the City ef Gilrey;that H.R.ESCHENBURG received the majority of all vetes
cast for the office of City Treasurer ef the City ef Gilrey; that HAROLD
SfURLA received the majority of all votesc:ast for the effice ef City
.Marshal ef the City of Gilroy, and that CABL W.FATE,CHARLES GALLO,J.
HUGHES KENNEDY, COURTLAND M .RUSH , KENNETH L. PETERSEN and SEGUNDO SANCHEZ
recedved the majority of all vetes cast for the effices ef Councilmen
of the City of Gilrey.
It is, therefore, ORDERED and DECLARED that GEORGE M.MASON has been
duly elected to. the 0. ffice of Mayor of the City of Gilroy; that PHILIP
A.COX has been duly elected to. the effice ef City Clerk ef the City ef
Gilrey; that H.R.ESCHENBURG has been duly elected to the office ef City
Treasurer ef the City ef Gilroy;that R.lffiOLD STURLA has been. duly elected
to the office ef City Marshal of the City of Gilroy, and that CARL W.
PATE, CHARLES GALLO,J . HUGHES KENNEDY, COURTLAND M.RUSH,KENNETH L.PETERSEN
and SEGUNDO SANCHEZ have been and are duly elected to the office of
Councilmen of the City of Gilrey.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
. That the City Clerk of the City ef Gilrey immediately sign and
deliver to. each persen so elected a certificate of election.
