RESOLUTION NO.379
RESOLUTION AND ORDER CANVASSING VOTES CAST AT REGULAR MUNICIPAL
ELECTION HELD MAY 7,1956,AND DETERMINING TOTAL VIDTE,AND DECLARING
ELECTION OF OFFICERS OF THE CITY OF GILROY.
WHEREAS, the regular. municipal election for the municipal offices
of the City of Gilroy was held in said City of Gilroy on the 7th day
of May,1956, in accordance with the provisions of the City Charter,
and pursuant to law and to due and legal notice given of said
election;and
WHEREAS, all of the absentee ballots applied for at said election
have been voted,an~ returned to the City Clerk;and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Gilroy has on the 8th
day of May,1956,canvassed the returns of said election including
the absentee votes, and found and ascertained that the total number
of votes,excluding absentee votes, cast at said election was 1952;
that the number of votes cast at Precinct "A" was 480l that the
number of votes cast at Precinct "B" was 616; that the number of
votes cast at Precinct "c" was 444; that the number of votes cast
at Precinct "D" was 412;and
WHEREAS, the said Common Council of the City of Gilroy did
proceed to also canvass the absentee ballots cast at said election
and found and ascertained that the total number ~f absentee votes
cast at said election was 23;that the total number of votes, including
absentee votes, was 1975,and the following named persons received the
total number of votes,exclusive of absentee votes, the number of
absentee votes,and the total number of votes set opposite their
respective names for the respective offices for which they were
candidates, to-wit:

WHEREAS,it appears from the said canvass and the records of
said Common Council of the City of Gilroy that all of the above
candidates were duly nominated to the respective offices for which
they were candidates, and that the said GEORGE C.MILIAS received the
majority of all votes ~ast for the office of Mayor of the City of
Gilroy;that P.A.COX received the majority of all votes cast for the
office of City Clerk of the City of GilroYithat H.R.ESCHENBURG
received the majority of all votes cast for the office of City
Treasurer of the City of GilroYithat liAROLD STURLA received the
majority of all votes cast for the office of City Marshal of the
City of Gilroy,and that CARL W.PATE,CHARLES GALLO,COURTLAND M.
RUSH,KENNETH L.PETERSEN,SIG SANCHEZ and EVERETT WENTWORTH received
the majority of all votes cast for the offices of Councilmen of the
City of Gilroy.
It is,therefore,ORDERED and DECLARED that GEORGE C.MILIAS has
been and is duly elected to the office of Mayor of the City of
GilroYithat P.A.COX has been and is duly elected to the office of [--.
City Clerk of the City of GilroYithat H.R.ESCHENBURG has been and
is duly elected to the office of City Tteasurer of the City of
Gilroy ithat HAROLD STURLA has been and is duly elected to the
office of City Marshal of the City of Gilroy,and that CARL W.PATE,
CHARLES GALLO,COURTLAND M.RUSH,KENNETH L.PETERSEN,SIG SANCHEZ, and
EVERETT WENTWORTH have been arid are duly elected to the offices of
Councilmen of the City of Gilroy.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That the City Clerk of the City of Gilroy immediately sign
and deliver to each person so elected a certificate of election.
ADOPTED,RASSED and ORDERED this 8th day of May,1956,by the
