RESOLUT[ON NO. 588
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY DECLARING THAT
A HEARING BEFORE THE CALIFORN[A H[GHWAY COMMISSION ON THE RELOCAT[ON
OF A ROUTE FOR A FREEWAY BY~PASS[NG THE CITY OF GILROY IS UNNECESSARY
WHEREAS, the Division of Highways has made studies for a freeway a~gg
a revised location of State Highway in Sa.ta Clara County, Road IV, SCl=2~C,
Gil, Mg H, B, S Js, between 0.4 mile south of Thomas Road and Route 68 near
Ford Road, and
WHEREAS, these studies have been QOmpleted and a map has been submitted
showing the location which is recommended for adoption, and
WHEREAS, The Planning Commission of the City of Gilroy has prepared
a traffic circulation plan for the City which is predicated upon the loca=
tion of the freeway as ~hown upon the said map and are in the process of
holding public hearings upon said traffic circulation plan, and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the location, as proposed,
is best suited to the land use plan of the City of Gilroy, and
WHEREAS, the present 101 Highway passes through the main business dis~
trict of the City and the traffic thereon causes hazard and in~onvenience
to those who wish to shop in the area, and
WHEREAS, this section of the existing highway through Gilroy IS now of
great inconvenience to through traffic, particularly on weekends and holi=
days.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council has determined that
no hearing before the Highway Commission is necessary to the adoption of the
proposed route as prepared by the Division of Highways.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Highway Commission adopt the route
without further delay and that after adoption rights~of~way be obtained and
construction started as early as possible.
