RESOLUTiON OF THE COUNCil OF THE CITY OF GILROY COMMENDING THE
PACIFiC GAS AND ELECTRiC COMPANY, SOUTHERN DIVISiON, AND FOUR
OF [TS EMPLOYEES; HARMON F~ CARTER, JAMES G~ FELLOWS, ELDON Co
PAINTER, AND DEMPSEY E. RABY JR~ FOR THEIR UNSELFISH EFFORTS
IN THE RESCUE OF TODD DUNCAN ON THANKSGIVING DAY, NOVEMBER 24~
1960.
WHEREAS on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1960, Todd Duncan, age 2,
by accident fell to the bottom of a ten foot shaft and was unable to escape
this confinement on his own, therefore requiring the assistance of many
dedicated volunteers including four employees of the Pacific Gas and Electric
Company~ Southern Division, to rescue the said Todd Duncan from this hazardous
location; and
WHEREAS, Harmon F. Carter, James G. Fellows, Eldon C. Painter~ and
Dempsey E. Raby Jr. did unselfishly, untiresomely, and carefully, excavate a
parallel shaft by which the said Todd Duncan was rescued unharmed from his
perilous confinement; and
WHEREAS, the said Harmon F. Carter, James G. Fellows, Eldon C. Painter,
and Dempsey E. Raby Jr., did perform this task efficiently with great skill
and speed and at all times considering the safety of the said child.
NOW~ THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Gilroy
does commend and express its appreciation to the Pacific Gas and Electric
Company, Southern Division, and its public spitited employees; Harmon F.
Carter, James G. Fellows, Eldon C. Painter, and Dempsey E. Raby Jr., for their
unselfish efforts in the rescue of Todd Duncan on November 24, 1960, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be made a part of the
permanent records of the City of Gilroy and that a certified copy thereof
be delivered to the above mentioned persons.
