RESOLUTION NO. 80 - 38
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GILROY PROCLAIMING "DJAB DE FIESTAS CULTURALES."
vnIEREAS, cultural exchange in a pluralistic society is
mutually beneficial to all particinating groups; and
~nIEREAS, the City of Gilrov is enriched by a large multi-
cultural population; and
vnIEREAS, the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo) has traditionally
been celebrated as a day of historical and cultural meaning for a
significant number of our Hispanic population; and
vlliEREAS, the City of Gilroy is interested in preserving and
supporting the cultural heritage of its citizenry; and
vlliEREAS, the City of Gilroy has traditionally participated
in and sunDorted activities as part of the Fiestas Patrias com-
munity celebration; and
vnIEREAS, the Fiestas Patrias Committee has broad representa-
tion including members from Gavilan College, Gilroy Unified School
District, Gilroy Parks and Recreation, and other community service
agencies.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Gilroy proclaims
May 3 through 9 as "DIAS de FIESTAS CULTURALES."
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the total Gilroy Communitv is
encouraged to participate in and take advantage of the educational
and cultural activities provided bv the Fiestas Patrias Committee.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 21st day of April, 1980, bv the
following vote:
