RESOLUTION NO. 80-89
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY
READOPTING THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE 1978 EDITION
WITH MODIFICATIONS
WHEREAS, Section 6.1 of the Gilroy City Code provides that the
latest edition of the National Electrical Code shall be submitted to
the Council to become effective within the City upon approval by
resolution, subject to possible modifications and amendments, and
WHEREAS, the 1978 edition of said code previously adopted has
been resubmitted with further modifications for Council approval by
the Chief Building Inspector.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
That the National Electrical Code, 1978 Edition, shall apply to
construction of all kinds in the City of Gilroy with the following
modifications and amendments developed and recommended by the Chief
Building Inspector~
1. Electrical work shall be done only by:
a. Owner occupants of single family
dwellings.
b. Electrical contractors who are in
compliance with the State Licensing
Law.
c. Qualified employees of governmental
agencies.
2. All electrical wiring, with the exception of
exclusions provided for in Section 300-1 (a) and (b),
shall be installed in approved raceway for all buildings
and structures. other than R-l, R-3 and M occupancies.
3. Elimination of raceways required above for re-
modeling will be determined by the Chief Building

Inspector unless otherwise required by the 1978 National
Electric Code.
That Resolution 79-110 adopting and amending the National
Electrical Code 1978 edition is hereby rescinded.
That a copy of this resolution be kept in the office of the
City Engineer for examination by interested persons.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of September, 1980, by the
following vote:
