RESOLUTION NO. 77-44
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY HONORING THE
COURAGEOUS AND DEDICATED ACTIONS OF GILROY POLICE OFFICERJ GILBERT
L. HORTA.
WHEREASJ on May 25, 1977, Police Officers Gilbert Horta and
Dan Crumrine observed a suspicious situation and subsequent investi-
gation led to the arrest of two federal fugitives wi~h concealed
weapons and in possession of thousands of dollars worth of narcotics;
and
WH~REASJ on May 31, 1977, Officer Horta answered a silent alarm
at the Gilroy Wells Fargo Bank and observed a suspect leave the bank.
Officer Horta followed and captured the suspect as he attempted to
draw a large caliber handgun from his pocket. Officer Horta recovered
approximately $15,000.00 in stolen money and subsequent investigation
led to the seizure of several thousand dollars worth of narcotics and
contraband in the suspect's room; and
WHEREASJ as the result of Officer Horta's alert, courageous,
and capable actions, two and potentially several additional serious
crimes against the people of Gilroy were effectively intercepted.
NOWJ THEREFOREJ BE IT RESOLVED by the Gilroy City Council that
they do hereby honor these courageous and dedicated actions by Police
Officer Gilbert L. Horta; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVEDJ that this Council, representing the
people of the City of Gilroy, do hereby extend the Community's deep
appreciation and thanks to Officer Horta for his aggressive devotion
to his community and justice.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED) that we extend our best wishes to
Officer Horta for every future success and a rewarding life.
