'~J '".../ RESOLUTION NO. 1800 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY SUPPORTING THE 1974 STATE CLEAN WATER BOND ISSUE (PROPOSITION 2) AND URGING THE ACTIVE SU~PORI A~B ADOPTION BY THE ELECTORATE OF SUCH BONDS TO AUTHORIZE $2~0~OUO~U 0 IN STATE GRANTS ASSISTING LOCAL AGENCIES CONSTRUCTION OF WATER QUALITY MANAGEMENT~ SEWERAGE AND RECLAMATION FACILITIES. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY: WHEREAS~ the State of Cal ifornia now grants to local agencies up to twelve and one-half percent (12t%) of the cost of construction of water quality management (sewerage and reclamation) facilities; and WHEREAS~ such grants, in conjunction with federal grants, greatly expedite financing the local share of project costs; and WHEREAS~ funds for these grants wi 11 be exhausted by late 1974; and WHEREAS~ Assembly Bill 161 (McCarthy, San Francisco) which was passed unanimously by both the Assembly and Senate and signed by Governor Reagan on October 2, 1973, authorizes presentation of a $250 million bond issue before the voters; and WHEREAS~ that Clean Water Bond Issue will be on the June 1974 primary ballot; and WHEREAS~ it is the responsibiJ ity of the Bay Area Sewage Services Agency to assure construction of necessary sewerage facili- ties in the San Francisco Bay Area. NOW~ THEREFORE~ BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Gilroy hereby finds that the $250 million Clean Water Bond Issue merits the support of all organizations with a desire and/or respon- sibil ity to protect the waters of the Bay Area. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Council hereby states its enthusiastic support for this Issue. RESOLUTION NO. 1800 - 1 - BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that al I cities, counties, sewer- age, water and irrigation agencies and environmentally-concerned organizations in the Bay Area are urged to actively support this, Issue. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Administrator is directed to distribute copies of this resolution to all such agen- cies and organizations.
