RESOLUTION NO, 1868
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY ORDERING THE CITY
CLERK TO PUBLISH NOTICE OF GENERAL ELECTION EOR MUNICIPAL OFFICERS TO
BE HELD IN THE CITY OF GILROY ON MARCH 4} 19/5} AND REQUESTING THE
SANTA CLARA COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS TO PROVIDE FOR THE CONSO-
LIDATION OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION WITH THE BIENNIAL GOVERNING
BOARD MEMBER ELECTION TO BE HELD IN GILROY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT AND
THE GAVILAN JOINT COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT TO BE HELD ON MARCH 4}

WHEREAS} the Charter of the City of Gilroy as amended makes provision
that a general municipal election shall be held on the regular election date estab-
lished by the Election Code of the State of California, as it now exists or may
hereafter be amended, in each odd-numbered year, commencing with the year 1975, for
the election of officers and for such other purposes as the Council may prescribe,
and
WHEREASJ the regular Biennial Governing Board Member election will
be held on Tuesday, March 4, 1975, and it is the desire of the Council that said
general municipal election be consolidated with said regular election; and
WHEREAS} the law applying to a municipal election requires that the
Council provide for the giving of notice of the election;
NOW} THEREFORE} BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Gilroy, as follows:
Section 1. That a general municipal election shall be held in said
City and the same shall be consolidated with the Biennial Governing Board Member
election to be held on Tuesday, March 4, 1975, for the purpose of electing a Mayor
and three (3) Councilmembers.
Section 2. That the City Clerk give notice of the said election in
accordance with law and to perform all other acts which are required for the hold-
ing and conducting of the said election.
Section 3. The Superintendent of Schools of the County is hereby re-
quested to order the consolidation of said general municipal election with said
regular election to be held on Tuesday, March 4, 1975, insofar as the City is

concerned, and to further provide that within the territory affected by said order
of consolidation, to wit, the City, the election precincts, polling places and
voting booths shall in every case be the same, and there shall be only one set of
election officers in each of said precincts. The name of every candidate for a
City office whose name has been filed with the City Clerk pursuant to law shall
be set forth in each form of ballot to be used at said election insofar as the same
is held within the City. Said Superintendent of Schools of the County is further
requested to order the Registrar of Voters of the County (i) to set forth on all
sample ballots relating to said consolidated elections, to be mailed to the quali-
fied electors of the City, the name of every said candidate and (ii) to provide
absent voter ballots for said regular election and said general municipal election,
consolidated therewith for use by qualified electors of the City who are entitled
thereto, in the manner provided by law.
Section 4. Pursuant to Section 18401 of the Elections Code, the Regis-
trar of Voters authorized to canvass, or cause to be canvassed, as provided by law,
the returns of said general municipal election with respect to the votes cast for
said candidates and to certify such canvass of the votes cast to the Council.
Section 5. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to certify
to the due adoption of this resolution and to transmit a copy hereof so certified
to the Board of Supervisors of the County and to file a copy hereof so certified
with the County Clerk of the County.
