RESOLUTION NO. 1706
RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT FOR
THE CITY OF GILROY, DIRECTING THE FILING OF A COPY
THEREOF, DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO CAUSE THE SAME
TO BE PUBLISHED AND DIRECTING THAT THE PROPOSAL BE
SUBMITTED FOR ADOPTION BY THE ELECTORATE AT THE
GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION.
WHEREAS, Section 3 of Article XI of the Constitution and
Sections 34450 et. ~. of the Government Code of the State of
California authorize the legislative body of a city, on its own
motion, to propose an amendment to the City Charter of any such
city, and to submit a proposal for the adoption thereof to the
electors of said city, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Gilroy on its own
motion, has caused a proposed amendment of Section 1400 of the
Charter of the City of Gilroy to be framed pursuant to the afore-
said provisions of the Constitution and Government Code of the
State of California so as to permit consolidation of general
municipal elections with school elections;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the
City of Gilroy, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:
1. That the said proposed amendment Charter be and the same
is hereby approved by the City Council of the City of Gilroy, and
a copy thereof shall be filed forthwith in the office of the City
Clerk of the City of Gilroy.
2. That the proposed amendment to the Charter of the City
of Gilroy be submitted to the electors of said city for their
approval or rejection at the general municipal election to be
held therein on Tuesday, the 10th day of April, 1973, said
proposed Charter Amendment being as follows, to-wit:
Section 1400. General Municipal Elections.
A general municipal election shall be held on the
third Tuesday of April of each odd numbered year,

commencing with the year 1975, for the election of
officers and for such other purposes as the Council
may prescribe.
3. That the ballot proposal shall be submitted as follows:
Shall Section 1400 of the Charter of the City
of Gilroy be amended to provide that general municipal
elections shall be held on the third Tuesday of April
of each odd numbered year so as to permit consolidation
of general municipal elections with school elections?
4. That the City Clerk be, and she is hereby directed to
cause said proposed Charter Amendment to be published once not
less than forty (40) and not more than sixty (60) days prior to
the date of the general municipal election in The Gilroy Evening
Dispatch, and in each edition thereof during the day of publication,
said newspaper being a newspaper of general circulation printed
and published in said City of Gilroy.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 5th day of February, 1973, by the
