RESOLUTION NO. 1640
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF GILROY URGING SUPPORT OF MEASURE C,
JUNE 6, 1972, ELECTION FOR THE CREATION OF A TRUST FUND FOR
THE ACQUISITION AND DEVELOPMENT OF COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION
FACILITIES.
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Gilroy is generally opposed to any
increase in taxes at this time, it does, however, recognize the need of an ongoing
and constructive program to expand and improve the present County Parks System; and
WHEREAS, the need for additional County parks and recreation facilities is
currently outstripping the availability of such facilities; and
WHEREAS, it would be more economical to proceed with acquisition of additional
park lands in the near future'rather than to defer this need to the continued in-
flationary spiral of local land values.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY to urge
the support of the County electorate to approve Measure C on June 6, 1972, in order
that the County of Santa Clara can proceed upon a positive expansion of its parks
system.
