RESOLUTION NO. 1443
RESOLUTION OF THE GtLROY CITY COUNCIL OPPOSING SEVERAL APPLICATIONS FOR
LAND CONSERVATION CONTRACTS FOR INCLUSION OF LANDS INTO A COUNTY OF
SANTA CLAM AGRICULTURAL PRES ERVE AREA.
WHEREAS, the City of Gilroy has been duly notified of a public
hearing before the Supervisors of the County of Santa Clara on the 25th
day of February at the hour of 9:30 a.m. in the Chambers of said Board,
70 West Hedding Street, San Jose, California, on the inclusion of proper-
ties into an Agricultural Preserve for Santa Clara County; and
WHER~S, the City of Gilroy has only recently spent a substan-
tial amount of money in the preparation of a General Plan which provides
for land use and development elements for the City of Gilroy; and
WHEREAS, said General Plan also provides a very substantial
agricultural preserve including the general areas richest farm lands
lying easterly and southerly of Gilroy; and
WHEREAS, it is now proposed to place several parcels of land
within the proposed County Agriculture Preserve that will be in direct
violation of Gilroy.s General Plan; and
WHEREAS, several of these inclusions would block the extension
of several planned and funded City street and utility projects that are
in the best interests of the communities' general welfare and orderly
growth; and
WHEREAS, several of these proposed inclusions presently abutt
Gilroy's municipal boundaries and are adjacent to existing urban uses; and
WHEREAS, it is our opinion that these several proposed inclu-
sions would gravitate to urban uses long before the termination of such
preserve agreements.

NOW~ THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City
of Gilroy, with the best interests of the City of Gilroy in mind, does
hereby oppose, object, and protest to the inclusion of the following
parcels into such a County A~ricultural Preserve.
