Resolution 1409 "'cC,,,,-,,,, ~'''".'_ ",,,<,,,,,,,,",,,_,-,,,_"-~,"''-'',.''-~,u'C,__ ...'_ . .."_'_', "'___i-4;"-,~c",""'-~.,-"_,,,,,,,.,.._~~_._,,_~~~,.,._,,,,,",_,,_,____."_.....~"'-' RESOLUTION NO. 1409 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY ADOPTING THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE, 1967 EDITION, SUBJECT TO MODIFICATIONS AND AMENDMENTS. WHEREAS, Section 6.1 of the Gilroy City Code, as amended by Ordinance No. 871 , provides that the latest edition of the Uniform Building Code shall be submitted to the Council to become effective within the City upon approval by resolution, subject to possible modifications and amendments, and WHEREAS, the 1967 edition of said code has been submitted together with modifications and amendments developed and recommended by the City Engineer. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: That the Uniform Building Code, 1967 edition, Volume 1 and the appendix thereto, shall apply to construction of all kinds in the City of Gilroy, subject to the following modifications and amendments, which amendments and modifications shall also apply in the City: 1. The second paragraph of section 205 shall not apply, 2. Chapter 70 shall not apply, 3. Group J occupancies in Chapter 15 shall also include fallout shelters for the use of families, which shall comply with the following special provisions: a. Family fallout shelters shall be used for emergency use only. b. The structure shall be of materials approved by the city building inspector. c. Sanitary facilities connected to sewers shall not be permitted. d. Minimum height of rooms shall be six feet six inche s. e. Ventilation to be recommended by the civil defense authority. / Ljo 1 ~ .~-~-~_._.~.._. _.~_._..._--_._._"~~._"....._,~...._-~._-_. f. No light source depleting the oxygen content of air in the shelter may be used. g. Entrance and exit facilities shall be at least twenty-four inches wide; hatchways shall be at least twenty-four inches wide in the minimum dimension. h. Corridor and stairs shall have a m1n1mum width of twenty-four inches and a minimum height of six feet six inches. i. The materials of construction to provide fallout radiation protection shall consist of the equivalent of three feet of earth or three hundred pounds per square foot of mass. 4. Section 25l7(a) shall be modified to require at least eighteen (18) inches minimum clearance under girders and twenty-four (24) inches minimum clearance under sub floors. 5. Section 25l7(c) shall be modified to required that all girders within six inches of concrete walks, all girder posts and all muds ills shall be sprayed for termite proofing, and metal flashing shall be installed at all porch and step areas as per detail. 6. Section 3103 shall be modified to require that an access hole eighteen inches (18") by twenty-four inches (24") shall be installed in the exterior wall of the foundation wall within ten feet (10') of the under floor plumbing. The footing of the foundation at this area shall have double reinforcing steel. 7. Section 3203 shall be modified to require that plywood sheathing on roofs shall be a minimum of one-half inch (1/2") in thickness; that roofing nails shall penetrate three-fourths inch (3/4") into sheathing; that a minimum of 6-D galvanized nails shall be used for wood shakes and installed along midline of shake, with minimum of 7-D galvanized nails to be used on ridge shake. That a certified copy of this resolution be kept on file in the office of the City Engineer for examination by interested persons. That this resolution shall become effective thirty (30) days after its adoption.
