RESOLUTION NO. 1223
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
ACKNOWLEDGING THE OPENING OF THE 1968 SEASON OF THE OAKLAND ATHLETICS
BASEBALL TEAM.
WHEREAS, the Bay Area is continuing to experience a rapid pop-
ulation growth which presents the appurtenant need for increased sports,
recreational and cultural activities; and
WHEREAS, the American Baseball League determined to relocate
a team at Oakland; and
WHEREAS, this action was primarily influenced by Mr. Charles O.
Finley; and
WHEREAS, it is both fitting and proper that the citizenry of
Gilroy give its support to the Oakland Athletics, the second major league
baseball team in the Bay Area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Gilroy does hereby focus the attention of Gilroy residents on the
fact that the Oakland Athletics will open their first season in the Bay
Area on the night of April 17, 1968 at the Oakland Coliseum.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Gilroy,
State of California, this 15th day of January, 1968.
