Resolution 1271 RESOLUTION NO. 1271 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY APPROVING CONSOLIDATION OF THE GILROY CITY LIBRARY WITH THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY LIBRARY WHEREAS, this Council by Resolution 1265 dated June 17, 1968, approved a plan for the consolidation of the Gilroy City Library with the Santa Clara County Library so as to provide through revenue bonds a new and more adequate library building and facility in the City of Gilroy together with increased library services on the terms and conditions set forth below, and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Santa Clara County by resolution dated June 18, 1968, approved said consolidation on identical terms and conditions, and by ordinance provided for Santa Clara County Library Services commencing July 1, 1968, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Gilroy approves consolidating the Gilroy City Library with the Santa Clara County Library on the following terms and conditions effective July 1, 1968: 10 Name and sign designation shall continue to be the lIGilroy Public Libraryll with the County seal added. 20 Persons employed by the City of Gilroy performing a function which is to be assumed by the County and who have previously qualified for their City positions through a merit or civil service system shall be eligible to transfer without examination to County employmento The former City employees continuing with the County shall be given credit for accrued, uncompensated vacation and sick leave with the Cityo Upon transfer to a classification comparable to that formerly held with the City, such employees shall be employed without any decrease in salaryo Salary increases may thereafter be granted in accordance with the County Salary Ordinance. 30 The present library hours would be retained with necessary adjustments to be made in accordance with useo 4. A lease agreement between the County Board of Supervisors and the City Council of Gilroy will be executed by July 30, 1968, -1- I 2 7/ which will provide for a City of Gilroy Bond Election for a library building leased to the County of Santa Clara with the County Library paying for all costs through rent in addition to providing library serviceo 5. The present County Library tax of 2l~ per $100 assessed valuation shall prevail, and thereafter, the tax rate will be in accordance with the County Library tax rate set by the Board of Supervisors 0 60 The County Library shall operate the Library in Gilroy in the present building at no rent, in exchange for the funding of the Gilroy Museum which is considered equal, in accordance with the policies set forth by the Board of Supervisorso 7. The County Librarian shall work closely with the Gilroy Library and Culture Commission as officially appointed by the Gilroy City Council.
