RESOLUTION NO. 1288
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY URGING THE UNITED STATES
POST OFFICE DEPARTMENT TO LOCATE ITS PLANNED NEW GILROY POST OFFICE IN
GILROylS DOWNTOWN BUSINESS DISTRICT.
WHEREAS, the City of Gilroy has recently completed a new General
Plan financed in part with Federal Funds, and;
WHEREAS, said Planning Study strongly recommends that the City
should over future years expand its present Civic Center area to the east
to tie in to the older downtown business district, and;
WHEREAS, the City and its General Plan support the revitalization,
renewal and rehabilitation of its downtown business district and the City
firmly believes it is necessary to the Communitysl economic future and well
being, and;
WHEREAS, a new Post Office facility located adjacent to the City1s
planned Civic Center expansion would constitute a valuable and constructive
element to Gilroy1s future plans, and;
WHEREAS, the above said location for a new Post Office will be
the most optimum location to the general publicsl activity, as well as
motorizing and pedestrian traffic.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Gilroy City Council at
its regular meeting of October 7, 1968, did adopt this resolution, respect-
fully urging the United States Post Office Department to locate its planned
new Gilroy Post Office in the area adjacent to the City1s downtown business
district and planned Civic Center expansion.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 7th day of October, 1968, by the following
vote:

Silva, and Goodrich.
