STATE OF CALIFORNIA SUPPORTING PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY'S SELECTION OF A LOCATION NEAR DIABl.O CANYON WITHIN THE COUNTY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO AS A SITE FOR ATOMIC POWER PLANT. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNt I L OF THE CITY OF GILROY THAT: WHEREAS, PAC"IC GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY has selected a location near Diablo Canyon within the County of San Luis Obispo as the site for an atomic power plan~ and WHER~S. sa i d Oi ab 10 Canyon 5 i te has been approved by the Resources Agency of the State of Califcrnia. and by leading conservation organizations such aJ the Sierta Club and Conservation Associates, and ~E~S, Pacific Gas and Electric Company did, on the 23rd day of December, 1966, fIt, an applIcation with the Public Utilities Commission of the State of tallforni'a for I certlflc~te of publ ic convenience and necessity to construct, install, own, Qperate, mal~taln and use said atomic power plant at Diablo C~nyon, and WHEREAS, as stated by the Hono'\'lble Gene A. Blanc, Coordinator of Atomic Energy Development a~ Radiation Pro~tion of the State of California: "California, facing stiff competition from low-cost electrical energy generated by the great Northwest. and Southeast hydro projects and now from the proliferation of low-cost nuclear power in the Midwest and East, must look to the atom as the future power source. This as a fact of life should be of vital concern to all persons interested In advancing the dynamic character of Californla.s economl~ future and the well-being of its cl tizens." and WHEREAS, The Gilroy City Council firmly believes that the economic growth and well-being of the State of California ,will be served by the granting to Pacific Gas and Electric Company of the certificate of public convenience and necessity which it has sought from the Public Utilities Commission, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Gilroy, State of California, that this Council finds that the construction of said atomic power plant will be to the benefit of all of the people of the State of >,m,~ California, including the people of this City and BE IT ,FURTHER ~ESOLVED that this Council urges the Public Uti litles · I - / X, 5, /068 -- .. .... Commission to grant the certificate of public convenience and necessity sought by Pacific Gas and Electric Company for said atomic power plant, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED ANO ORDERED that the Clerk of the City of Gilroy is hereby instructed to transmit copies of this resolution to: Pacific Gas and Electric Company Public Utilities Commission of the State of California Hon. Gene A. Blanc, Coordinator of Atomic Energy Development and Radiation Protection of the State of California.
