RESOLUTION NO. 1136
RESOLUTION ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF GILROY FOR THE PURPOSE OF MAKING
A PERMANENT RECORD UPON THE OCCASION OF THE
PASSING OF GEORGE E. PIERCE, A LONG TIME
DEDICATED MEMBER OF THE GILROY VOLUNTEER
F IRE DEPARTMENT.
WHEREAS, GEORGE E. PIERCE died in the City of Gilroy
on July 7, 1967; and
WHEREAS, said decedent joined the Gilroy Volunteer Fire
Department on September la, 1926, and from that time to the date
of his death he was continuously an energetic, interested, faithful
and dedicated member of said department; and
WHEREAS during his long membership in the said public
organization Mr. Pierce never shirked his duty as a fireman, but
was always ready to serve to the best of his ability in the
destruction of property by fires within the City of Gilroy and to
minimize the damage from fires which did occur, and the Fire
Department of said city, in the death of said GEORGE E. PIERCE
has lost a most valuable'member, and the City of Gilroy one who
was ever ready to serve the public interest through his membership
in said Department and otherwise as well, and was at all times
willing to aid in advancing the interests of his community; and
WHEREAS, the passing of one who has served the City
so faithfully for so long a period should not be permitted to
go unnoticed, but rather an enduring record should be made in
the City's archives;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED By the Council of the
City of Gilroy, that in the death of said GEORGE E. PIERCE
the Gilroy Volunteer Fire Department has lost one of its most
valuable, experienced and able members, the City of Gilroy a

conscientious protector of the property of the citizens of
the city, and his family a loving and considerate husband
and father.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a copy of this Resolution
duly engrossed be delivered to ALICE PIERCE, the surviving wife
of said decedent.
PASSED AND ADOPTED This 7th day of August, 1967,
by unanimous vote of the members of the City Council of the
City of Gilroy.
