Resolution 1147 RESOLUTION NO. 1147 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF GILROY, CALIFORNIA, URGING CONGRESSIONAL SUPPORT OF THE CALIFORNIA ASSEMBLY JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 29. WHEREAS, AJR 29 seeks relief for local governments through tax sharing that would permit federal revenue or revenue sources to be returned to states and local communities without restrictions, and;1 WHEREAS, this return of revenues would provide the opportunity to relieve local property tax burdens and lessen the dependance on federal grant-in-aid pro- grams, and; WHEREAS, the lessening of this local dependancy upon federal aid would strengthen home rule and diminish forced excessive local spending to match federal grant-in-aid projects with the general affect being a strengthening of local govern- ment and relief to local taxpayers, and; WHEREAS, most local governments are currently faced with the need to seek new revenue sources in order to carry out their local service demands. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Gilroy respectfully urges the Congress of the United States to favorably consider AJR No. 29, and take the necessary actions to implement such a tax sharing program.
