RESOLUTION NO. 1045
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY URGING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
OF SANTA CLARA COUNTY TO ALLOCATE FUNDS IN THE 1966-67 COUNTY BUDGET FOR THE
ACQUISITION OF LANDS AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SOUTH COUNTY AIRPORT FACILITY.
WHEREAS, the need for a South County Airport is recognized by the
residents of this area; and
WHEREAS, there currently exists no adequate airport for 1 ight air-
planes in this area, local businesses and services to the area must depend upon
airports and appurtenant services located at substantial distances from the
business centers of the South County; and
WHEREAS, such an airport facil ity would be a most tangible and con-
structive boost to the general areas economy; and
WHEREAS, an airport would be in accord with your Honorable Board's
established policy for the development of a County Airport System, the Friedland
Report and the recent General Aviation Plan accepted by your Honorable Bqdy; and
WHEREAS, representatives of the Federal Aviation Agency have stated
that there is a need for a regional airport in the South County, that could
qualify for various Federal Grants; and
WHEREAS, an early acquisition of an airport site in this area would
insulate the County taxpayers from the continually increasing land costs in the
area, which are estimated to be increasing by approximately 10% per year.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Councilof the City of Gilroy,
County of Santa Clara, State of Cal ifornia, does hereby respectfully request and
urge your Honorable Board to include funds for the development of a South County
Airport in the County's 1966-67 Budget.
