RESOLUTION NO. 1066
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY SUPPORTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
OF THE COUNTY OF SANTA CLARA DETERMINATION TO PROCEED WITH COUNTY EXPRESSWAY PROGRAM
AND BOND ELECTION.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY:
WHEREAS, in 1961 the sixteen City Councils of the Incorporated Cities,
the Board of Supervisors and the electorate of all Santa Clara County adopted a
countywide network of expressways to be constructed in three phases; and
WHEREAS, since the approval of a bond election in 1961 the County of Santa
Clara has rapidly proceeded toward the completion of Phase I of the program; and
WHEREAS, the construction of Phase I expressways is serving all of the
people of Santa Clara County by relieving traffic congestion; and
WHEREAS, Phase II of the County Expressway System has been submitted to
all of the sixteen cities with ample time for consideration and approval; and
WHEREAS, Phase If is a continuation of the Phase I Expressway System
designed to further alleviate traffic congestion on a countywide basis; and
WHEREAS, delay in the construction of the Phase II Expressway System will
only result in higher costs for rights of ways and construction works; and
continue time delays and operational costs to the general motoring public.
NOWt THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Gilroy does hereby support the
Board of Supervisors of the County of Santa Clara determination to proceed with
Phase II of the County Expressway System.
