RESOLUTION NO. 107Q
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY AUTHORIZING THE FILING
OF AN APPLICATION FOR A GRANT UNDER TITLE I OF PUBLIC WORKS AND ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT ACT OF 1965. FOR THE ACQUISITION OF A SITE AND THE CONSTRUCTION
OF A SEWER TREATMENT PLANT AND APPURTENANCES.
WHEREAS, Title I of the Public Works and Economic Development Act
of 1965, provides grants and loans to local public bodies to assist them
in the development of new.industry to provide employment opportunities in
areas suffering from un-employment and;
WHEREAS, Gilroy is located in Santa Clara County and qualifies under
the Overall Economic Development Program of that County to receive such
grants and;
WHEREAS, a prospective and well established industry is currently
expressing an interest to locate a new plant in the Gilroy area that will
employ approximately 250 employees and ancillary employment .pportunities
on an estimated one to four ratio and;
WHEREAS, the City of Gilroy currently suffers a need for additional
employment opportunities and further needs more year around employment to
supplement the seasonal employment of local agriculture operations and food
processing industries presently located in the area, and;
WHEREAS this new industry and these badly needed new job opportuni-
ties cannot be established unless adequate funding can be provided for the
acquisition of a site, the construction of a new sewer treatment plant and
appurtenant facilities;
NOW. THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Gilroy
as follows to wit:
1. That an application be filed with the United States Department
of Commerce under Title I of the Public Works and Economic Development Act
of 1965, for funds to construct said sewer treatment plant.

2. That the City Administrator of the City of Gilroy is hereby
authorized and directed to prepare, execute and file such an application
with the United States Department of Commerce and to provide additional
information, documents ~d estimates as may be required by said federal
agency, and to further execute such contracts as may be required by said
agency, and to act as the authorized corresp0ndent of the City of Gilroy.
