RESOLUTION NO. 915
A RESOLUTION URGING THE CALIFORNIA STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION TO ADOPT
AN EARLY SCHEDULE FOR THE I~PROVEMENT OF ROUTE 101 TO A FREEWAY STATUS
BYPASSING THE CITIES OF GILROY AND MORGAN HilL, CALIFORNIA.
WHEREAS, California State Highway Route No. 101, is the most direct and the
most beautiful route between California's great metropolitan areas of San Francisco
and Los Angeles, and,
WHEREAS, millions of dollars of State Highway funds have been spent to
improve this highway to a freeway status with the resulting user benefits amounting
to millions of dollars annually which are accuring to the general traveling public
of the State of California; and,
WHEREAS, the State Highway Commission previously has scheduled the completion
of most of this route to a freeway status, there exists one outstanding exception.
No scheduled provision has been made for the completion of this freeway route
bypassing the Cities of Gilroy and Morgan Hill; and,
WHEREAS, the stop and time delay losses along Route 101, through the
communities of Gilroy and Morgan Hill are estimated to cost the general traveling
public a minimum five thousand dollars ($5,000.00) daily, creates additional
substantial losses to the local businessmen of these two communities resulting
from traffic congestion along existing Route 101 through their respective downtown
business districts and contributes to substantial losses resulting from traffic
acci dents.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DOES HEREBY PLACE ITSELF ON RECORD URGING THE CALIFORNIA STATE
HIGHWAY COMMISSION TO ADOPT AN EARLY SCHEDULE FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF ROUTE NO. 101
TO A FREEWAY STATUS BYPASSING THE CITIES OF GILROY AND MORGAN HILL, CALIFORNIA.
