Resolution 801 RESOLUT ION NO. 80 I RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY ENDORSING THE REVISED LLAGAS CREEK SMALL WATERSHED FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT WHEREAS, a plan for flood control, land treatment and improved water conservation for the Southern part of Santa Clara County, known as the Revised Llagas Creek Small Watershed Project, by utilizing the provisions of the Little Watershed Act, Public Law 566, administered by the United States Department of Agri- culture, has been developed under the sponsorship of Loma Prieta Soil Conservation District, South Santa Clara Valley Water Conservation District, and Santa Clara County Flood Control and Water Conservation District; and WHEREAS,while the main objective of the said proposed plan is the prevention of floods in the South County which have, at times in the past devastated large areas, with great loss to property owners, it will also assist in the needful conservation of water for replenishing the underground supply required for irrigation, industry, and domestic use; and WHEREAS, the cost of said plan will be nearly all borne by the Federal Government and the State of California; and WHEREAS, said project has been discussed at numerous meetings and thoroughly explained and, to some extent, modified to eliminate some objections, and it is believed that the present plan has the support of nearly all of the people in the areas involved, but the governmental agencies concerned will not continue to be interested in the plan and will drop it unless evidence is soon furnished that it has the active support of the people in the watershed; and WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Gilroyris thoroughly convinced that the development of said proposed project is highly desirable and should be encouraged in every way possible, ( 1) ,~, / (,./'/...," l.,/ l._-" NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the said city of Gilroy, a city in which disastrous floods have occurred, does hereby endorse said project and urges that it be undertaken without any more delay. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,duly certified by the Clerk of the City, be forwarded to the proper officials of the Federal and State Agencies which have been instrumental in devising the preparation of said plans.
