~ESOLUTION NO. 824
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY REQUESTING
THE STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO
CAUSE THE WIDENING OF THE MEDIAN DIVIDER STRIP AND THE INSTAL-
LATION OF LEFT HAND TURN LANES ALONG HIGHWAY 101 (STATE ROUTE 2)
BETWEEN THE NORTH CITY LIMITS OF GILROY AND LLAGAS CREEK.
WHEREAS, many Citizens of Gilroy are dependant upon Highway 101 North
to commute and travel over in the conduct of their daily business and,
WHEREAS, the traffic volume of this traffic carrier has increased to
the point that the danger of attempting left hand turns from said highway facil ity
and the danger of the close proximity of opposing lanes of traffic, divided only
by a minimal median is daily increasing and;
WHEREAS, the hazard of travel ing over this section of highway is borne
out by the ever increasing occurance of serious traffic accidents; and,
WHEREAS, continued private and publ ic developments along this section
of highway are steadily increasing and consequently requiring more left hand
traffic movements off of this high
speed traffic facility, and
WHEREAS, the City of Gilroy has previously requested the improvement
of this section of highway and the Honorable Highway Commission saw fit to allocate
funds for the design of said needed median strip and left hand turn lanes.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that in the interest of traffic safety,
and the protection of its Citizens, the Council of the City of Gilroy, along with
their friends and neighbors, do hereby respectfully request that funds for the
construction and improvement of said highway median strip be included in the
1964-65 State Highway Budget.
