RESOLUTION NO. 725
RESOLUTION OF COUNCIL AUTHORIZING MAINTENANCE, PLACLNG AND GRADUAL
REMOVAL OF STOP SIGNS ON AN INTERIM OR TEMPORARY BASIS TO FACILI-
TATE A SAFE TRANSITION FROM PRESENT TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEM TO THE
NEW CONTROLS REQUIRED BY NEW ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 15.41 AND
15.43 OF GILROY CITY CODE DESIGNATING INTERSECTIONS AT WHICH STOP
SIGNS SHALL BE PLACED AND ESTABLISHING THROUGH STREETS IN THE CITY
OF GILROY.
WHEREAS, there has been introduced in the Council of the City of
Gilroy a proposed ordinance amending Sections 15.41 and 15043 of the
Gilroy C ty Code by cl iminating many stop signs at intersections and
establ ishing several new and different through streets which will require
additional stop signs; and
WHEREAS, said ordinance if adopted, will make a comprehensive change
in the traffic control system in said City of Gilroy and it will be im-
practical to attempt to make the complete change at one time as well as
unsafe and the changeover should be accomplished gradually until the
public has had an opportunity to become famil iar with the new conditions,
and the City Administrator should be empowered to authorize the maintenance
of certain of said stop signs as now located and the placing of additional
signs, on a temporary basis, as, in the opinion and discretion of the
City Administrator, will safely attend the said traffic control changes 0
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED and it is hereby ordered, that the
City Administrator of the City of Gilroy be, and he is hereby authorized
to keep stop signs posted and cause additional stop signs posted and
cause additional stop signs to be erected, on a temporary basis at such
intersections and places as he, in his discretion, may deem best, and
most suited to safely accompl ish the transition from the present traffic
control pattern to that which will be in effect when the said new ordinance
becomes operative and then to gradually el iminate such temporary stop
signs when the public has become familiar with the requirements of the
said new ordinanceo
