RESOLU'rION NO. 597
RESOLUTION OF CITY COUNCIL PROPOSING ON ITS OWN
INITIATIVE THAT CERTAIN THERRITORY NOW IN PROCESS
OF BEING ANNEXED TO THE CITY OF GILROY BE ZONED AS
SOON AS POSSIBLE AS AN EMERGENCY MEASURE AND REFERRING
SAID ZONING TO THE CITY PLANNING COMMISSION.
WHEREAS a petition has been filed with the City of Gilroy
requesting that certain territory contiguous to the Southerly
City limits of said city and designated in the petition as
"FIRST SOU'rHERN ADDITION (1-61) TO THE CITY OF GILROY" be
annexed to the City of Gilroy; and
WHEREAS the owners of said tract are proposing said
annexation with the intention that said property will be used
for a shopping center and other commercial purposes, multiple
dwellings and apartments under such zoning as may be necessary
therefor; and
WHEREAS, the nature of the use of the property in con-
siderable detail is known to this City Council and it believes
that such zoning is desirable and that said area should be so
zoned as soon as it is annexed to said City as an emergency
measure to insure that it will be used in a manner and for
purposes compatable with the orderly and harmonious growth
and development of the City as expressed in the general or
master plans now under consideration by the said City which
include using said area for shopping center and other purposes
above enumerated.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED AND IT IS HEREBY ORDERED:
That the Council of the City of Gilroy, on its own initiative,
does propose that said territory be zoned as soon as it is
annexed to the City of Gilroy and that the matter of such
zoning be and the same is hereby referred to the Planning
Commission of the said City for such hearipg and action as

as may be required under the Zoning Ordinance of the City of
Gilroy and the statutes of the State of California and that
the same be expedited as much as possibleiand
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED AND ORDERED
That a copy of this resolution duly Certified to be such
by the City Clerk be forwarded to the Secretary of the said
Planning Commission forthwith.
