RESOLUTION NO. 634
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GILROY ADOPTED IN MEMORY OF SERGEANT
ROBERT LEE BAKER OF THE GILROY POLICE
DEPARTMENT.
WHEREAS, Robert Lee Baker, a valued officer in
the Gilroy Police Department, died on the twenty ninth of
July, 1961, at the age of thirty six years; and
WHEREAS, said Robert Baker served in that Depart-
ment as a Patrolman from July 1, 1953 to January 1961, at
which time he was appointed to the office of Sergeant; and
WHEREAS, while serving in the Department he
performed his duties with diligence, skill and with great
understanding, and as a student of police work was con-
tinually on the alert to improve himself and the Department;
and
WHEREAS, the said Robert Baker served his country
as a member of the U. S. Navy during the Second World War,
for a period of over three years; and
WHEREAS, this Council believes the passing of one
of its valued officials who has served both the City and
his country so well should not be permitted to go un-noticed
but merits a perpetual memorial in the records of this city;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that by the death
of said Robert Baker the City of Gilroy has lost a valued
employee and citizen who will be sorely missed by his fellow
employees and his friends and acquaintances;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be entered
upon the minutes of this session of the Council, that a copy
thereof be delivered to the surviving wife and family of the

said Robert Baker to whom the Council, in behalf of itself
and the citizens of Gilroy, express their deep sorrow and
sympathy.
PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 7th day of August, 1961, by the
following vote:
