Resolution 693 01 II CJ.Rti1 'r ~1 ~ :/ RES 0 L UTI 0 N No. 693 ----.------- WHEREAS, there is in the City of Gilroy (hereinafter called "Cityll) a large volume of vehicular traffic between Monterey Road and the city limits of Gilroy along Leavesley Road which has been steadily increasing at a rapid rate; and WHEREAS, in the interst of public health, safety and welfare, it is essential the improvement of Leavesley Road be accomplished; and WHEREAS, Leavesley Road is part of Federal-Aid Secondary Route 992, and in the opinion of City and County would qualify as an extension of said Federal-Aid Secondary project; and WllliREAS, County and City desire to file with the Highway Commission of the State of california pursuant to Section 143.3 of the Streets and Highways Code (relating to the financing of Federal- Aid Secondary Urban Extension projects) a request for an allocation of funds to construct said improvement; NOW, THEREFORE, be it jointly resolved by City and County as follows: That City does hereby request the California Highway Commission to allocate sufficient funds pursuant to Section 143.3 of the Streets and Highways Code for the improvement of Leavesley Road between Monterey Road and the city limits of Gilroy as an urban extension of Federal-Aid secondary Project No. 992. That City and County do further reque~ the commission to allocate for the fiscal year ending July 1, 1961j, a sum of One Hundred Thousand and NO/100 Dollars ($100,000.00) to City. That City has considered the effect of the proposed financing in relation to the statutory formula contained in Section l8~4 of the Streets and Highways Code appertaining to apportionment of , State Highway construction monies among the cities. That City shall acquire sufficient rights of way to assure completion of all stages of the ultimate facility, or that the necessary rights of way will be acquired or satisfactorily protected befnre advertisement of the project for bid proposals. That County shall be the legal administrative agent for the extension project and all funds for the construction of said project shall be released through the County. That the "Project Report and Program on Major City street in santa Clara County between Monterey Road and the city limits of Gilroy, length 0.55 Milesll dated June 18, 1962, is incorporated herein by reference marked I!Exhibit All, and made a part hereofo PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Gilroy this 18th day of June , 1962.
