RESOLUTION NO. 79 - 15
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY APPROVING
THE FILING OF AN APPLICATION FOR GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR THE CITY
HALL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT.
WHEREAS, the City of Gilroy needs a new city hall because
it has outgrown its present facilities; and
WHEREAS, as a result, staff normally located within a
city hall is housed in three different buildings which are iso-
lated from each other; and
WHEREAS, the principal building being used was original-
ly built in 1940 as a municipal auditorium; and
WHEREAS, in 1959 the City, having been advised that its
old city hall was not considered safe for use as a public meeting
place, moved its offices to this building as a "temporary location";
and
WHEREAS, this building would be better used for the
recreational uses for which it was designed; and
WHEREAS, it would be much more efficient to combine the
offices into one single facility designed for this purpose; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has had preliminary architect-
ural plans prepared for such a facility;and
WHEREAS, the City has acquired a site for a new city
hall; and
WHEREAS, no local funds are available for such construc-
tion.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Gilroy does hereby approve of the filing of applica-
tions for grant assistance for the construction of said project

and appoints its Director of Public Works-City Engineer as agent
of the City to prepare, submit and execute any applications,
certificates and reports necessary for grant acquisition.
