RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY ORDERING THE
CITY CLERK TO PUBLISH NOTICE OF GENERAL ELECTION FOR MUNICIPAL
OFFICERS TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF GILROY ON NOVEMBER 6, 1979, AND
REQUESTING THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO PROVIDE
FOR THE CONSOLIDATION OF THE GENERAL MlNICIPAL ELECTION WITH THE
SPECIAL STATEWIDE ELECTION TO BE HELD THROUGHOUT SANTA CLA~A COUNTY
ON NOVEMBER 6, 1979.
~nIEREAS, the Charter of the City of Gilroy as amended makes
provision that a general municipal election shall be held on the
regular election date established by the Election Code of the State
of California, as it now exists or may hereafter be amended, in
each odd-numbered year, cormnencing \.-lith the vear 1975, for the
election of officers and for such other purposes as the Council may
prescribe, and
WHEP~AS, Chapter 193 of the Statutes of 1979 provides that a
special election shall be held throughout California on Tuesday,
November 6, 1979, and it is the desire of the Council that said
general municipal election be consolidated with said special election;
and
WHEREAS, the law applying to a municipal election requires
that the Council provide for the giving of notice of the election;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Gilroy, as follows:
Section 1. That a general municipal election shall be held
in said City and the same shall be consolidated with the special
statewide election to be held on Tuesday, November 6, 1979, for the
purpose of electing a Mayor and three (3) Council ~embers.
Section~. That the City Clerk give notice of the said
election in accordance with law and to perform all other acts which

November 6, 1979, insofar as the City is concerned, and to further
provide that within the territory affected by said order of conso-
lidation, to wit, the City, th~ election precincts, polling olaces
and voting booths shall in every case be the same, and there shall
be only one set of election officers in each of said precincts.
The name of every candidate for a City office whose name has been
filed with the City Clerk pursuant to law shall be set forth in
each form of ballot to be used at said election insofar as the
same is held within the City. Said Board of Supervisors of the
County is further requested to order the Registrar of Voters of the
County (i) to set forth on all sample ballots relating to said con-
solidated elections, to be mailed to the qualified electors of the
City, the name of every said candidate and (ii) to 9rovide absent
voter ballots for said regular election and said general municipal
election, consolidated therewith for use by qualified electors of
the City who are entitled thereto, in the manner provided by law.
Section 4. Pursuant to Section 17081 of the Elections Code,
the Registrar of Voters authorized to canvass, or cause to be can-
vassed, as provided by law, the returns of said general municipal
election with respect to the votes cast for said candidates and to
certify such canvass of the votes cast to the Council.
Section 5.
The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed
to certify to the due adoption of this resolution and to transmit
a copv he~eof so certified to the Board of Supervisors of the Countv
and to fil~ a cnpy hereof so certified with rhe r.ounty rlerk of the
Countv.
