RESOLUTION NO. 81 - 6
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITIES OF GILROY AND MORGAN
HILL, RECOMMENDING THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS,
COUNTY EXECUTIVE, AND SHERIFF TO DEVELOP A PRE-ARRAIGN}lliNT DETENTION
FACILITY FOR ENFORCE~lliNT AGENCIES SER\~D BY THE GILROY-MORGAN HILL
t1UNICIPAL COURT.
WHEREAS, the cities of Gilroy and Horgan Hill are located in
the most rapidly developing area in Santa Clara County, and
WHEREAS, the crime rate and arrest rate in Southern Santa
Clara County are increasing as a result of this growth, and
vlliEREAS, the absence of a local pre-arraignment detention
facility (PDF) places a great burden upon both agencies, both budgetary
and operational, and
tVHEREAS, the absence of a local pre-arraignment detention
facility places a great burden upon the citizens of both communities
with detention facilities located in San Jose and Milpitas, and
tVHEREAS, the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, County
Executive, Sheriff and Santa Clara County Justice System Advisory
Board have been advised of the circumstances surrounding this problem.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Councils of
Gilroy and Morgan Hill meeting in joint session strongly urge the
Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors to take Southern Santa Clara
County Criminal Justice needs into account and plan for development of
a pre-arraignment detention facility (PDF) for law enforcement agencies
served by the Gilroy - Morgan Hill Municipal Court.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 2nd day of February, 1981, by the
following vote:
