RESOLUTION NO. 81 - 51
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY RELATIVE TO THE
OBSERVANCE OF BUILDING AND SAFETY WEEK.
WHEREAS, building construction is one of the State's largest,
most important and vital industries, and the regulation of such con-
struction provides for an effective means to safeguard life or limb,
health, property and public welfare; and
WHEREAS, it is important that all citizens of the State of
California clearly understand the reasons for the State regulations
contained in the Health and Safety Code and in local codes, in order
that they may properly support this vital enforcement, and cooperate
with the officials required to carry them out; and
WHEREAS, Building Officials throughout the State of Califor-
nia are currently pursuing the important task of educating the public
on the latest construction methods and materials, such as the use of
solar energy, conservation of depletable energy resources, seismic-
resistive elements, sound attenuation, and access to buildings for the
physically handicapped.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Gilroy that the members hereby proclaim May l7th-23, 1981 as
"Building and Safety Week" in the City of Gilroy and urge all citizens
of the City to cooperate with enforcement officials and to become aware
of the importance of building construction regulations to achieve a safe,
healthful, and pleasant living environment.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Gil-
roy transmit a suitably prepared copy of this resolution to the Calif-
ornia Building Officials, Richard Miyahira, President.
