RESOLUTION NO. 81 - 57
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY URGING SUPPORT OF THE
LLAGAS CREEK WATERSHED PROJECT AND METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION.
WHEREAS, South Santa Clara County, including the City of Gilroy,
has suffered some ten (lO) major floods over the ryast ninety (90) years
and the resulting millions of dollars of damages to rural and urban
lands, improvements, crops, and equipment; and
WHEREAS, the Llagas Creek Watershed Project nlans were final~
ized in 1967 to ultimately provide the general area with protection from
excessive flood and erosion damages; and
WHEFEAS, a substantial portion of this project has already been
completed to date; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Gilroy and local residents
who have experienced the devastation of the area's ~eriodic flooding
have supported this project since its inception; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gilroy over the years has contributed
time, money, effort, and innovations that will save the ultimate project
substantial amounts of money.
NOW, THEREFOPE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of
Gilroy that it hereby again expresses its support for the Llagas Creek
Watershed Project, urges general support thereof, and respectfully re-
quests all affected regulatory agencies to undertake every effort to
expedite this needed project. Further, that construction of these faci-
lities should proceed in a workmanship and safe manner by continuing
this construction work from down stream and progressively working up-
stream completing the main channel and contributory lateral channels
before continuing this progression up-stream. Any alternative to this

orderly method of work would place the City of Gilroy and other down-
stream residents in an untenable and disasterous situation in the
event of any interim flooding during construction of these facilities.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 1st day of June, 1981, by the follow-
ing vote:
