RESOLUTION NO. 82 - 60
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY REAFFIRMING THE URGENT
NEED FOR CONSTRUCTION OF SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS ON ROUTE 152 (PACHECO PASS
HIGHWAY).
WHEREAS, there is no highway in California that is potentially more
dangerous than State Route 152, also known as the Pacheco Pass Highway;
and
\~EREAS, the City Council of the City of Gilroy has previously
called for construction of safety improvements on State Route 152; and
lNt~EREAS, the Citizens Committee for a Safer 152 recently adopted
a special report which details the deficiencies of State Route 152 and
recommends reconstruction of 7.8 miles between post mile 22.1 and post
mile 29.9; and
\~EREAS, Santa Clara County in a letter dated ~1arch 12, 1982, has
urged the Metropolitan Transportation Commission to include said 7.8 mile
reconstruction project into its Regional Transportation Improvement
Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Gilroy hereby expresses its support of the actions taken by Santa
Clara County and urges the Metropolitan Transportation Commission to
include the proposed 7.8 reconstruction project on State Route 152 into
its Regional Transportation Program; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Gil-
roy hereby urges the California Transportation Commission to include
said project in its State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) and
to proceed forthwith with the design and eventual construction of this
project which will reduce the occurrence of death and injury on State
Route 152.
