RESOLUTION NO. 82 - 118
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY SUPPORTING THE
RESTORATION OF PASSENGER TRAIN SERVICE TO GILBOY.
IffiEREAS, a great number of Gilroy citizens will be ac-
commodated by renewed passenger rail service through Gilroy; and
WHEREAS, efforts are currently underway to restore both
Amtrak and Southern Pacific rail lines; and
WHEREAS, Gilroy has an existing facility suitable for use
as a multimoda1 passenger station, accommodating the railroad,
private automobiles, Santa Clara County Transit, taxicabs, bicycles,
and pedestrians; and
WHEREAS, the California Department of Transportation has
informed the City of its eligibility for funding under the Inter-
modal Transfer Facilities Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Gilroy pledges its support to the restoration of passen-
ger train service to Gilroy and the improvement of existing facili-
ties to further accommodate rail passengers arriving at the rail
station by various other modes of transportation.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 18th day of October, 1982, by the
