RESOLUTION NO. 82 - 123
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY SUPPORTING WATER
QUALITY MONITORING PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the Llagas Uvas groundwater basin is the chief water
source for the City of Gilroy; and
~nlEREAS, the City of Gilroy has at least five (5) wells which
draw water for municipal supply from the Llagas-Uvas groundwater basin;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Gilroy is aware of nitrate levels present
in some local groundwater which exceed recommended levels; and
~lliEREAS, the integrity of the Llagas-Uvas groundwater is vital
to the continued health and well-being of the citizens of Gilroy; and
WHEREAS, the establishment of a water quality monitoring program
is essential for the identification and correction of water quality
problems and the preservation of a vital community resource; and
WHEREAS, economic assistance from the Water Quality Hanagement
Planning Program would make speedy implementation of a critically
needed water quality monitoring program possible.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Gilroy affirms
its support for the Gavilan Water Conservation District's proposed
groundwater quality monitoring program and urges the State Water Re-
sources Control Baord to render assistance to the District through
the Water Quality Management Planning Program.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 6th day of Decemher, 1982, by the
