RESOLUTION NO. 83 - 21
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COu~CIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY SUPPORTING
AB 543 PERTAINING TO AGRICULTURAL LABOR RELATIONS.
Whereas, growers in South Sa.nta Clara Valley have historically
produced a variety of fruits and vegetables, hays and grains, seeds and
other crops, thus contributing to the health and prosperity of our
nation; and
WHEREAS, agriculture and agriculture-related industries have
always been a primary contributor to the prosperity of this area, and
have provided opportunities for work for our citizens; and
WHEREAS, the continued viability of the farming industry
around Gilroy and throughout the state is important to the citizens of
the area and the nation; and
WHEREAS, unreasonable restraints on the farming industry reduce
the prospects for continued successful growing, harvesting and processing
of crops; and
WHEREAS, the passage of AB 543 by the State Legislature would
lift an unreasonable restraint and return to growers the right to choose
what crops to plant on land under their control.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Gilroy City Council
that they go on record as supporting the passage of AB 543 by the
Senate and Assembly of the State of California.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Gilroy City Council commends
Assemblyman Rusty Areias for his sponsorship of AB 543.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 21st day of March, 1983, by the
