RESOLUTION 83-25
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GILROY LIMITING CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS IN
MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
In order to prevent potential undue exercise of
influence by campaign contributors over elected municipal
officials,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Gilroy
pursuant to Elections Code section 22808 that:
1. LIMITATIONS. No person other than a candidate
shall maKe, solicit or accept any contribution,
gift, subscription, loan, advance, deposit, pledge,
or promise of money or anything of value in said of
the nomination or election of a candidate which
will cause the total amount contributed by such
person with respect to a single election in support
of such candidate to exceed Two Hundred Dollars
($200.00) . ttpersonu for the purposes of this res-
olution shall include and mean any individual,
corporation, partnership, foundation, political,
religious, or social organization, committee, or
association. "Contributionlt in this Resolution
shall have the same meaning as defined in the
Political Reform Act of 1974, Government Code 582015.
2. INFRACTION. It shall be unlawful for any person
to knowingly violate any provision or to knowingly
fail to comply with any of the requirements of this
Resolution. Any person who knowingly violates any
of the provisions or who knowingly fails to comply
with any of the requirements of this Resolution
shall be guilty of an infraction.
3. EFFECT Ql VIOLATION. If, after his election a
candidate is convicted of a violation of any provision
of this Resolution, the election to office of such
candidate shall be void and such office shall become
vacant forthwith. If a candidate is convicted before
his election, his candidacy shall be terminated
immediately and he shall no longer be eligible for
election.
