RESOLUTION NO. 84 - 12
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY
HONORING RETIRED MAYOR NORl1AN B. GOODRICH
WHEREAS, Gilroy Mayor Norman B. Goodrich retired in November
1983, after serving as Mayor for the previous sixteen years; and
WHEREAS, previously the Mayor served as a City Councilmember
for seven years; and
WHEREAS, under the Mayor's leadership, the City of Gilroy grew
from a small isolated agricultural town of 8,000 people to a prosperous
progressive city of 24,000 people, fiscally sound, with long-range
city planning policies; and
HHEREAS, the Mayor's achievements while in office includ.e con-
struction of a new City Hall, a Senior Citizens' Center, Headquarters
Fire Station, Wren Avenue Fire Station, the old City Hall Renovation,
a Police Facility, the Wheeler Auditorium renovation, and expansion
of public works facilities; and
~mEREAS, the Mayor led successful efforts to enhance the quality
of life in Gilroy through construction of Christmas Hill Park, Las Animas
Park, El Roble Park and San Ysidro Park and implementation of beautifi-
cation projects throughout the City; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor pioneered city services to all Gilroyans, par-
ticularly, through senior programs and recreation programs for youth and
adults, and encouraged participation of all citizens in City Council
decisions; and
w~EREAS, as a Gilroy native, husband and father, a former Gilroy
Police Officer, a former Highway Patrol Officer, local businessman, and
through his participation in charitable and fraternal organizations the
Mayor has enriched community life in Gilroy.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Gilroy City Council
takes great pleasure and pride in commending Mayor Norman B. Goodrich for
his dedication and service to the City of Gilroy in the past and in the
future, and sends best wishes to him and his family in his retirement.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 6th day of February, 1984, by the follow-
ing vote:
