RESOLUTION NO. 85 - 21
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY HONORING
HAYOR ROBERTA HOWSON HUGUAN
v.THEREA.S, The League of Friends of Santa Clara County Cormnis-
sion on the Status of women at their recent Seventh Annual Women of
Achievement Awards selected ~~YOR ROBERTA H. HUGHAN as recipient of
one of their 1984 awards in the category of Politics and Government,
for her outstanding leadership in an elected position; and
~~EREAS, the 1984 award winners were selected for those
achievements which reflected women's increasing participation in
planning and decisionmaking in Santa Clara County; and
~~EREAS, ROBERTA HOWSON HUGHAN, Mayor of Gilroy, graduated
from the University of California at Berkeley in 1955 with a degree
in architecture and in this profession, she successfully established
her own architectural firm and has designed churches, recreational
facilities, and residences; and
w~EREAS, ~~YOR HUG}~N has been active in the Santa Clara
County Commission on the Status of \~omen and has demonstrated extra-
ordinary leadership in government, human services and urban planning;
and
WHEREAS, ~~YOR HUG~~N presently serves as the Governor's
appointee to the California Air Resources Board, has served as a
member of the County Transportation Commission, President of the
South County Chapter of United \\Jay and President of the Gilroy Branch
of the American Association of University Women; and
"W"'HEREAS, HAYOR HUGH1\.N' S achievements ll.ave had a significant
impact politically throughout the County and State and specifically

has brought recognition and notoriety to the City of Gilroy.
NmJ, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Gilroy that it does hereby unanimously commend and acknowledge
}{AYOR ROBERTA H. HUGHAN as a unique individual, is honored to have
her a.s their leader a.nd wish her everv success in all of her future
