RESOLUTION NO. 85 - 27
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY OFFICIALLY
DESIGNATING SAINT-CLAR, F~~NCE AS A SISTER CITY
OF THE CITY OF GILROY
WHEREAS, the goal of world peace can only be achieved if the
nations of the world work towards mutual respect and understanding; and
"W1~EREAS, as nations are composed of individuals the goal of
mutual understanding will be reached if the citizens of the nations
learn to know and appreciate each other; and
WHEREAS, for that to occur, citizens of the nations must com-
municate, exchange information, exchange visits and establish mutual
trust, respect, and love; and
WHEREAS, this rapport can be most easily established on a city
by city basis, particularly when the cities have common interests; and
vffiEREAS, the City of Saint-Clar and the City of Gilroy are
national centers for the growing and processing of garlic; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint-Clar and the City of Gilroy are
national centers for the growing of wine grapes and the production of
wine; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Gilroy desire to establish
a sister city relationship with the City of Saint-Clar, France; and
WHEREAS, the Gilroy City Council see a great advantage to the
City and to the cause of world peace and universal understanding in
such a relationship.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of
Gilroy that Saint-Clar is a sister city of the City of Gilroy; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Gilroy looks forward
to a rewarding exchange of ideas and the building of mutual trust
and respect between the citizens of the cities.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of April, 1985, by the follow-
ing vote:
