Resolution 1986-13 ~ . . ~ RESOLUTION NO. 86 - 13 RESOLUTION OF THE GILROY CITY COUNCIL HONORING RETIRED COUNCILlffiMBER JOHN E. PATE WHEREAS, John E. Pate served as an exemplary elected member of the Gilroy City Council for 12 years, from April 1969 to November 1981, when he chose not to run for re-election; and WHEREAS, John E. Pate responded to the requests of City Council- members and accepted an appointment to fill a vacancy on said Council, serving for 2 years, from November 1983 to November 1985; and WHEREAS, as a Councilmember he was chosen by his peers to serve as Payor Protempore from March 1977 to November 1981; and WHEREAS, during his tenure the City of Gilroy grew from an iso- lated agricultural town of 11,000 to a prosperous progressive City of 25,000 people, fiscally sound and well governed; and WHEREAS, John E. Pate led successful efforts to strengthen, im- prove and update the land use planning policies of the City of Gilroy so that the City is growing in an orderly, compact and responsible manner; and WHEREAS, John E. Pate played a major role in achieving construc- tion of a new City Hall, a Senior Citizens' Center, Headquarters Fire Station, Wren Avenue Fire Station, Old City Hall Renovation, a Police Facility, and expansion of Public Works facilities; and w~EREAS, as a Councilmember he participated in successful efforts to enhance the quality of life in Gilroy through construction of Christ- mas Hill Park, Las Animas Park, El Roble Park, San Ysidro Park and im- plementation of beautification projects throughout the City; and WHEREAS, John E. Pate earned the respect of his peers for his ability to bring forth constructive ideas, his ability to affect con- sensus, and his honest and forthright approach to City government, ser- ving as an outstanding example of an elected official; and RESOLUTION NO. 86 - 13 -1- .,-o....,r- ~ . . WHEREAS, as a long time Gilroy resident, husband and father, local businessman, and as a participant in service, charitable and fraternal organizations, he has enriched community life in Gilroy. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the members of the Gilroy City Council deem it fitting and proper that special recognition be made herein of the services rendered the City of Gilroy by one who faithfully performed public duty and was in addition a very highly respected citizen always interested in the progress and welfare of the City.
