RESOLUTION NO. 86...39
RESOLUTION URGING SuPPORT FOR THE CQNTINUED
FUNDING OF THE LLAGAS CREEK PROJECT t AUTHORIZED
UNDER P.L. 566
WHEREAS, the L1agas Creek Project was first authorized
in 1969, and
WHEREAS, the project has been under continuous con-
struction since 1982, and could be completed by 1990 if
funding at past levels is continued, and
WHEREAS, the Santa Clara Valley Water District has
spent more than 4.3 million dollars for land rights, bridges,
and utility relocations and will spend 13.3 million dollars
more to assure completion of the project, and
WHEREAS, Gilroy and the surrounding area has suffered
severe flood damage in recent years because the project
was not completed, and may continue to suffer such damage
annually until the project is completed,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council
of the City of Gilroy most urgently requests support for
continued funding of the L1agas Creek P.L. 566 Project as
essential for the safety of Gilroy and the surrounding area
from annual flood damage.
