RESOLUTION NO. 86 - 66
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY HONORING ROBERT J. DYER
GILROY CHAMBER OF CO~lliRCE 1986 t1AN OF THE YEAR
WHEREAS, The Gilroy Chmnber of Commerce at their recent Annual
Meeting and Awards Dinner selected Robert J. Dyer as the receipient
of the 1986 11an of the Year Award for his outstanding contributions
to the Gilroy community; and
w~EREAS, Robert J. Dyer, has been a very active supporter of the
City of Gilroy, particularly through his participation in the activi-
ties of the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce and his contributions of innova-
tive ideas to expand the work of that organization in the community;
and
~~EREAS, Robert J. Dyer instigated such programs as the Hall of
Fame, designed to recognize contributions of Gilroy's past citizens,
the Secret Witness Program, designed to secure information leading
to the arrest of suspected criminals, The Gilroy Home Improvement, R.V.
and Computer Show to showcase local products and services, The Visitors'
Bureau, proposed to place Gilroy as the new location on the schedule
of the California tourist, and the Gourmet Alley Cornrnittee with its
goal of downtown beaufification; and
~1EREAS, Robert J. Dyer was one of the founders of the Gilroy
Garlic Festival which has grown to have state, national and inter-
national significance a.nd which demonstrates the spirit of volunteerism
in this co~~unity; and
WHEREAS, Robert J. Dyer has also been active in the Wheeler Hos-
pital Foundation, the Gilroy Foundation, United Way as well as other
community organizations, further demonstrating his co~~itment to improv-
ing the economic climate of Gilroy as well as making this City a better
place to live.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of
Gilroy that it does hereby unanimously co~mend and acknowledge Robert
J. Dyer as 1986 Man of the Year of the City of Gilroy.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 27th day of October, 1986, by the follow-
ing vote:
