RESQLUT~ON NO\ 87~39
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY CQUNCIL OF THE ClTY OF GlLRQY
ORDERING THE CITY CLERK TO PUBLISH NOTICE OF GENERAL
ELECTION FOR MUNICIPAL OFFICERS TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF
GILROY ON NOVEMBER 3, 1987, AND REQUESTING THE CONSOLIDATION
OF ELECTIONS TO BE HELD IN OTHER DISTRICTS AND REQUESTING
SERVICES OF THE REGISTRAR OF VOTERS.
WHEREAS, the Charter of the City of Gilroy as amended
makes provision that a general municipal election shall be
held on the regular election date established by the Election
Code of the State of California, as it now exists or may hereafter
be amended, in each odd-numbered year, commencing with the
year 1975, for the election of officers and for such other
purposes as the Council may prescribe, and
WHEREAS, the other district elections will be held on
Tuesday, November 3, 1987, and it is the desire of the Council
that said general municipal election be consolidated with said
elections; and
WHEREAS, the law applying to a municipal election requires
that the Council provide for the giving of notice of the
election;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Gilroy, as follows:
Section I. That a general municipal election shall be
held in said City and the same shall be consolidated with
other district elections to be held on Tuesday, November 3, 1987,
for the purpose of electing the Mayor and three (3) Council
Members.

Section 2. That the City Clerk give notice of
the said election in accordance with law and to perform
all other acts which are required ~or the holding and
conducting of the said election.
Section 3. That pursuant to Part 2.5 (commencing
with Section 23300) of Division 14 of the Elections Code
and Section 5342 of the Education Code, the City Council
of the City of Gilroy hereby requests the governing body
of any other such political subdivisions, or any officer
otherwise authorized by law including the Santa Clara County
Registrar of Voters, to partially or completely consolidate
said elections, and to provide that, upon consolidation,
the consolidated election shall be held and conducted, the
election officers appointed, the voting precincts designated,
the ballots printed, polls opened and closed, the ballots
counted and returned, the returns canvassed and all other
applicable proceedings performed in connection with above
consolidated election be regulated and done by the Registrar
of Voters of the County of Santa Clara in accordance with
the provisions of applicable laws regulating consolidated
elections; and, that this City Council consents to such
consolidation.

Section 4. The City Clerk is hereby authorized
and directed to certify to the due adoption of this
resolution and to transmit certified copies thereof to
the Registrar of Voters of the County of Santa Clara.
